Ali Farouk Saloum is an artist/photographer based in Detroit, Michigan. Ali’s work is conceptual, often blending surrealism and staged portrait work. His work has explored grief, family, self-conflict, and currently the Arab identity. The latter series is not complete but garnering institutional recognition, with several works acquired by the Detroit Institute of Arts. Tentatively titled “Not An Enemy Not A Victim” this series showcases Arab/Muslim culture and pushes back on the stereotypes that Arab’s/Muslim people are either enemies or victims of war.
